The Sixten Conducting Center

Vision and goals


The Sixten Ehrling Conducting Center is a platform linked to the music activities at Malmö University that manages the legacy of the Swedish star conductor Sixten Ehrling and spreads public education about his personality and art as well as the Swedish conducting tradition. The center focuses its activity and interest on Sixten Ehrling's personality and conducting practice, initiates national and international collaborations in continuing education for young student conductors and projects that explore the conducting profession in choirs and orchestras. The Centre makes available resources of Swedish conducting tradition and Sixten Ehrling's musical heritage.

By managing and highlighting Ehrling's legacy, the Sixten Ehrling Conducting Center wants to inspire students and active conductors in Sweden and internationally.

The digital and physical archives at the Sixten Ehrling Conducting Center will consist of scores, music literature, photos and recordings of Sixten Ehrling as well as other recognized Swedish chief conductors in history, including Herbert Blomstedt, Tor and Ortrud Mann and Erik Eriksson.
